Volunteers help prepare curbs and paint. No special skills needed—only a willingness to help Ward One look its best.

WORA Reemerges as a force in Annapolis
Eye On Annapolis recently featured the Ward One Residents Association following our September membership meeting, highlighting WORA’s renewed advocacy and growing role in discussions affecting downtown Annapolis.

Zoning Unlocked: Is the City Listening?
Ward One residents have made their concerns about Zoning Unlocked clear — repeatedly and publicly.
More than 120 residents attended a recent community meeting, with approximately 95% expressing opposition to the proposal as presented. Residents have also testified before the City Council, written to elected officials, attended public meetings, and raised substantive concerns about density, historic character, infrastructure, parking, traffic, and the long-term impact these zoning changes could have on our neighborhoods. Yet despite this extraordinary level of public participation, the Administration continues to move Zoning Unlocked forward without meaningful changes to its recommendations.
That is increasingly the issue.
Public engagement should be more than an opportunity for residents to speak. It should also require government to listen, respond, and demonstrate how community input has influenced the final plan. Ward One residents Dan Clements and WORA board members Sharon Kennedy and John Richards share their concerns directly with the Annapolis City Council.
Now We Need Your Voice
Zoning Unlocked will now move before the Annapolis City Council, and the next phase of this discussion will be critical.
If we want to preserve the historic character, livability, and unique qualities that make Annapolis the community it is today, Ward One residents and WORA members need to become involved. Attend the hearings. Contact your elected representatives. Speak at City Council meetings. Make your views known.Decisions being made today could shape Annapolis for decades to come. This is the time for residents to participate and to insist that their voices be heard.
WORA’s message remains simple: Plan with us — not for us.
